A kaleidoscope is a magical tube you look through that shows you beautiful, ever-changing patterns made of colours, shapes, and reflections!
When Lia and Leo look through their kaleidoscopes, they see something different every time they turn it. How is that possible? It's all about mirrors and light!
Inside a kaleidoscope you will find:

The secret is reflection. Here is how it works, step by step:

Light enters through the coloured objects at one end (the object chamber).

The mirrors reflect the colours and shapes โ each mirror reflects what the other shows, making copies of copies!

A symmetrical pattern forms. Mirrors at 60ยฐ create a 6-fold symmetric pattern, like a snowflake!

You twist the tube and the beads tumble into a new arrangement โ creating a brand new pattern instantly!

The kaleidoscope was invented in 1816 by Scottish scientist Sir David Brewster while studying how light bounces off surfaces.

What you need:

Cardboard tube (paper towel roll)

3 strips of mirror card or foil

Coloured beads or sequins

Clear plastic wrap + tape
Steps:

Fold 3 mirror strips into a triangle shape (mirrors facing inward). Tape together securely.

Place the mirror triangle inside the cardboard tube so it fits snugly.

Cover one end with clear plastic wrap, pour in coloured beads, and seal tightly with tape.

Make a small peephole at the other end. Point toward light, look through, and twist!
โ ๏ธ Adult help needed for cutting mirror card. Always be careful with sharp edges!
